KA JAM: 2011 International Youth Day Celebration to empower jobs for Filipino youth

In line with the International Youth Day celebration, the MDG F Joint Programme on Alternatives to Migration: Decent Jobs for Filipino Youth is organizing an event titled“Kabataan: Jobs and Alternatives to Migration” or KA JAM on 12 August, 2011 at SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City.  It will serve as a platform for the presentation of the key youth employment and migration priorities to His Excellency President Benigno Aquino III who will be the Keynote Speaker.

The event, in partnership with government agencies namely Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the National Youth Commission (NYC), also marks the culmination of the United Nations’ International Year of the Youth. The United Nations recognizes that young people in all countries are a major human resource for development, positive social change and technological innovation. Their ideals, energy and vision are essential for the continuing development of their societies. This, young people are not merely passive beneficiaries but effective agents of change.

Sex and Sensibilities.com founder and editorial director Ana P. Santos will be speaking at the event about positive sexuality, self-esteem and how informed choice plays a crucial role in career development and advancement. 

More than 500 guests are expected to participate, mainly from government agencies, academe, youth groups, non-government organizations, employer’s groups, the development community and other interested stakeholders. This event is supported by the Spanish-funded Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund and implemented jointly by the International Labour Organization (ILO), International Organization for Migration (IOM), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and UNFPA with the DOLE as lead implementing partner.

Artists and bands such as 6cyclemind, Gracenote, Callalily, Itchyworms, Color it Red, Moonstar88 and Gloc-9 will be performing on the said event.
