It is with great pleasure that we invite you to commemorate with us the International Day of Action for Women’s Health on May 28 2011 together with WGNRR members and allies in the Philippines.

On May 28 we shall join thousands of people around the world in celebration of this day, to defend reproductive and sexual rights as universal, indivisible human rights and mobilize for reproductive justice.
Why are we commemorating yearly International Day of Action for Women’s Health?
*BECAUSE sexual and reproductive rights continue to be denied within international, regional and national forums, while whose who exercise these rights – including lesbian/gay/bi/trans/queer communities – are persecuted and even subjected to death penalty
*BECAUSE religious, political and economic extremisms that promote patriarchal, conservative, and exclusionary ideologies, while normalizing violations of the rights to bodily autonomy are on the rise.
*BECAUSE the lack of comprehensive reproductive health policies lead to disastrous consequences for women’s health including life threatening complications from unsafe abortions.
*BECAUSE hope remains alive in the advances made in some national and international contexts.
May 28 program highlights:
- Screening of the ANC documentary “Truths. The Women” on the situation of illegal and unsafe abortion in the Philippines. Conversation with the film makers Pat Evangelista and Kiri Dalena
- Campaign presentation “Courage Unfolds” by LeAP
- Artistic performances – poetry, music, dance – on women related issues by the artists collective “Romancing Venus”
and many more!
